LOWELL, MA : Bicyclist seriously injured in Lowell collision on February, Monday 26th 2018

A bicyclist suffered serious injuries after he was struck by a car on Dutton Street near the Fletcher Street intersection at about 3:50 p.m. Monday.

The rider was unresponsive as he lay in the inbound lane of traffic as emergency crews flooded to the area to assist. A Schwinn mountain bike lay several feet away with what appeared to be a Market Basket grocery bag looped around the handlebars.

The Mercury Grand Marquis sedan that struck the bicyclist was pulled over to the side of the road nearby, with damage to the front driver's side light and a cracked windshield.

The driver stayed on scene and watched as medical personnel tended to the bicyclist. The driver also talked to police.
