Hendersonville, N.C : Teen dies in a wreck on Kanuga Road on Sunday night, March 26, 2017
Hendersonville, North Carolina
An 18-year-old driver died Sunday night after running off the road and striking a utility pole on Kanuga Road.
Domingo Tomas-Hernandez of Hendersonville was driving his Volkswagen Jetta away from Hendersonville near Beaumont Estates at about 9:45 p.m. when he passed a vehicle on a double-yellow line, Sgt. Chris Goodson said.
While attempting to get back into his lane, Tomas-Hernandez lost control of the Jetta and went off the right side of the road, up an embankment and struck the utility pole, landing upside down in a ditch, Goodson said.
Tomas-Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene, Goodson said.
No other vehicles were involved, and Tomas-Hernandez was alone in the Jetta. It was raining at the time, Goodson added.
Tomas-Hernandez was wearing a seatbelt. Goodson said he does not know yet what speed he was traveling.
Duke Energy was called to repair the pole and allow traffic to pass.
Tomas-Hernandez was a former HHS student.
