The Phoenix Fire Department said one man was killed and another individual was critically injured in a crash in South Phoenix Sunday afternoon.

Two cars crashed around noon near 31st Avenue and Southern.

Phoenix police said Eddie Ray Roper, 31, was seen driving a maroon Buick Lacrosse erratically going westbound on Southern Avenue.

Witnesses saw the car weaving through lanes as well as crossing the center line driving toward oncoming traffic that was traveling eastbound.

Roper's vehicle then collided head-on with a Jeep SUV. Both cars caught on fire.

Officials pronounced Roper dead, and the driver, who was the only occupant in the Jeep, was transported to a hospital in serious but non-life threatening condition. Police believe the driver of the Jeep showed no signs of impairment.
