OLD TOWN, FL : Suwannee man dead in Dixie County crash on Sunday, February 12th 2017

A Suwannee man died in a one-car fatal accident in Dixie County on Sunday night, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

The identity of the fatality is pending notification of the next of kin, according to the report.

The 62-year-old was driving his 2005 Honda Accord southbound on County Road 349 at 8:10 p.m. Sunday when he traveled across the northbound lane and onto the eastern shoulder of the roadway, according to FHP.

While continuing to travel southeasterly, the front of the vehicle struck a tree, according to the report, and caught on fire.

The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene at 8:22 p.m. by Dixie County Fire Rescue Firefighter/Paramedic Roy Bass, the report said.

The role alcohol played in the accident is still under investigation, according to the report.
