Newport News, VA : Hampton man dies following crash into tree in Kiln Creek on Friday, 16th March 2018

A 69-year-old Hampton man died at the hospital after crashing into a tree in Kiln Creek Friday night, police said.

Newport News firefighter-medics and police responded to the crash in the 1500 block of Kiln Creek Parkway shortly after 6:30 p.m. Firefighters were able to get the man out of the vehicle without extrication, Battalion Chief Jerry Reed said at the scene.

The man suffered a medical emergency before crashing into the tree. He was taken to the hospital for the medical condition, Reed said.

The man arrived at the hospital in critical condition and died a short time later, police spokesman Master Police Officer Brandon Maynard said in a news release.

The crash is under investigation, Maynard said.
