HOKE COUNTY, NC : Driver wanted in deadly hit-and-run investigation NCSHP on Tuesday, 26th September 2023

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly hit-and-run, and it is asking for the public's help in finding the driver involved.

The crash happened Tuesday morning at approximately 12:08 a.m. on Laurinburg Road near McQuage Road in Hoke County. Troopers were called to the scene for a hit-and-run collision involving a pedestrian.

Once on the scene, investigators learned a pedestrian was struck and killed by a driver who did not stop. The pedestrian's body was found on Laurinburg Road. The victim was identified as Wilton Dantzler, 23, of Andrews, South Carolina.

Troopers said it appears that after hitting the person, the driver then headed north toward Raeford. The driver may have been in a 2004-2011 Dodge or Chrysler passenger car that is missing the passenger-side mirror.
