A 12-year-old boy has died from injuries he sustained in an ATV crash that killed another boy on Tuesday.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Cason Hatcher, 12, of Marianna, was critically injured when he ran a stop sign on his ATV on Tuesday afternoon. He was pronounced dead on Wednesday.
The only passenger on the ATV, 17-year-old Michael Riley Tolbert, was killed instantly in the crash.
According to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol, Hatcher was driving the Polaris Ranger ATV on Tuesday just before 2:30 p.m. with Torbett on the back. The pair was headed eastbound on Ontario Road in Marianna when Hatcher failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Ontario Road and Martin Road.
A car, driven by 18-year-old William Glenn Haney of Marianna, was traveling through the intersection at the time and collided with the right side of the ATV. The car ran into a ditch before coming to a final rest on private property. The ATV overturned before catching fire and becoming totally consumed in flames.
Haney and a 15-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries and were taken to Jackson Hospital. Hatcher suffered critical injuries and was taken to Bay Medical Center, before being pronounced dead on Wednesday. Torbett suffered fatal injuries.
The FHP said the investigation is ongoing.
