Frankford, DE : Bicyclist critically injured in Frankford crash on Sunday, 1st September 2019

A bicyclist was critically injured Sept. 1 following a crash on Burbage Road near Frankford.

The cyclist, a 57-year-old man from Frankford, was not wearing a helmet as he rode eastbound on Burbage Road at 12:37 p.m. near East Sherwood Drive, said Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe of the Delaware State Police.

A 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee also was traveling eastbound on Burbage Road when the driver, a 56-year-old Frankford man, failed to see the cyclist, striking the bike with the right front bumper, Jaffe said. The impact ejected the cyclist from the bike, and he was taken to Christiana Hospital in critical condition, Jaffe said.

The driver of the Cherokee was properly restrained, and he was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction, and no charges have been filed at this time, Jaffe said.
