FREEPORT, IL : Byron man stabbed his wife, died in Stephenson County crash on Thursday, March 16th 2017
A Byron man who died in a single-vehicle wreck in Stephenson County on Thursday stabbed his wife shortly before the crash, authorities said.
Michael Gorman, 48, fled the 8400 block of Winnebago Lane in rural Byron before Ogle County deputies arrived in response to report of a domestic dispute around 5:15 p.m., according to a news release from the Ogle County Sheriff's Office.
His wife was taken to a Rockford hospital and remains in serious condition, the release said.
Stephenson County sheriff's officers were dispatched to Illinois 26 about half a mile north of Florence Road at 5:56 p.m., according to the sheriff's office.
Upon arrival, the deputies saw Gorman had been ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to FHN Memorial Hospital and then flown to Mercyhealth Hospital in Rockford, where he was later pronounced dead, the Stephenson County release stated.The Winnebago County coroner's preliminary report from the autopsy indicates Gorman died from blunt-force trauma as a result of the crash, the Ogle County release said.
