Portland, OR : Motorcyclist dies in head-on crash in SE Portland on early sunday morning, June, 1 2014
Portland Police are investigating a head-on crash that killed a motorcycle rider early this morning.
Central Precinct officers responded to Southeast 29th Avenue and Powell Boulevard around 2:00 a.m. on the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
Officers and medical personnel learned that the crash did not involve a pedestrian but a man who had been thrown from his motorcycle.
He was found dead in the street.
Police say the early investigation showed the rider was speeding westbound on Powell Boulevard, crossed over into the eastbound lanes of traffic and crashed head-on into a station wagon.
The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene.
Witnesses say the motorcycle rider was speeding between 80 mph and 100 mph before the crash.
The driver of the car was not hurt.
Police say the driver is cooperating with the investigation and did not appear to be impaired.
The Traffic Division's Major Crash Team responded to the scene.
Powell Boulevard was closed both directions for several hours for the investigation.
Police have not released the name of the man who died in the crash.
