Police say a 55-year-old Vermont man is dead after he was hit by a pickup truck.

David Elder, of Ryegate, was doing maintenance work for underground storage tanks at a Newbury gas station Sunday. Police say he was struck by a driver pulling away from the gas pump.

Elder was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officials. Members of the fire department and emergency medical services also responded to the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone who saw the incident is being asked to call Vermont State Police.
