Eagle Mountain man dies in crash on I-80 in Wyoming

An Eagle Mountain man died when the vehicle he was riding in crashed into a semi truck that had stopped at the scene of an earlier accident on Interstate 80 in southwestern Wyoming.Wyoming Highway Patrol Sgt. Stephen Townsend said that 32-year-old Jeffrey Ryan died at the scene of the 9:22 a.m. Tuesday accident on westbound I-80, about 36 miles east of Evanston. The Reser’s Fine Foods truck, driven by Trent Mcdougal, 35, of Riverton, Utah, had come to a halt in the right westbound lane due to a road closure in effect at the earlier crash site.Moments later, a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by 53-year-old Terry Shank, of Payson, Utah, approached the scene."For reasons unknown, [he] failed to see the stopped traffic ahead of him until just before impact. Shank swerved his vehicle to the left to avoid a collision, however, the right side of his vehicle struck the left side rear of Mcdougal’s vehicle," Townsend said. The pickup truck ended up in the I-80 median. The impact also pushed the semi off the roadway and into a barrow pit.Shank was treated for minor injuries at Evanston Regional Hospital and released. Mcdougal was not hurt, Townsend said.No citations were issued as the accident remained under investigation on Wednesday.
