Moncks Corner, South Carolina
A child was hit by a car early Friday morning in Berkeley County. Highway Patrol officials said the boy later died.
According to officials, the accident happened on Domingo Drive in Moncks Corner. The child was flown to Medical University Hospital in Charleston, officials said.
The Berkeley County Coroner identified the boy as 7-year-old Craig M. Little, Jr. According to the coroner, Little was waiting at the bus stop when he was hit. His death was ruled accidental.
According to neighbors, the boy was hit by a maroon SUV. When they ran outside, they saw the boy lying in the street and thought he might have head injuries.
Neighbors say several children wait for the school bus on that street each morning; they're usually picked up by 6:30 a.m. Residents say speeding is often a problem on Domingo Drive, leading them to call the Department of Transportation several times to have stop lights or speed bumps installed to slow traffic.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
Officials at Berkeley County School District could only confirm the child hit is a student at one of the district's schools.
