Kennewick, WA : Benton City driver killed in bus collision on Wednesday, October, 25th 2017
A 56-year-old driver was killed Wednesday morning south of Benton City when he hit a busload of orchard workers head-on.
Jesus Alvarado of Benton City was headed south on Webber Canyon Road at 6:15 a.m. when he tried to pass another car on the rural two-lane road, said Sgt. Mat Clarke, with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.
Alvarado’s Toyota pickup hit the former school bus carrying 16 passengers and a driver as it was headed in the opposite direction, said Clarke.
The bus and pickup collided near Dennis Road, about 1 1/2 miles from the intersection with Badger Road. The truck went under the front of the bus and then spun free, ending up facing the opposite direction in the middle of the road.
