A man is dead after police say he crashed his car early Wednesday morning while possibly having a 'medical issue' in north Charlotte.
According to police, a 51-year-old man was driving along the 6900 block of Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road in north Charlotte around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning when he lost control of the vehicle.
The car ran off the right side of the road and knocked down several small trees.
The crash shut down the road for nearly 3.5 hours.
Officials on scene told that they believe the driver suffered a medial issue before crashing, but didn't say what kind of issue.
No other cars were involved in the crash and officials say no one else was injured in the incident.
The driver's name has not been released.
Drivers were able to use I-485 or Beatties Ford Road to Oakdale Road as alternate routes until the road reopened around 7 a.m.
