Willard, UT : Clarkston man killed in collision with semi near Willard early Thursday morning, February 23, 2017

Icy road conditions Thursday contributed to the early morning death of a 28-year-old Clarkston man who lost control of his car and struck a semi near Willard.

According to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Lee Perry, Austin Taylor was behind the wheel of a 1995 Ford Escort at about 5:19 a.m. He was traveling southbound on I-15, two miles south of the Willard/Perry exit when he lost control of his car.

Taylor’s car hit the cable barrier on the right side of the road before re-entering the roadway where he was hit broadside by a Fed-Ex semi truck, sending the car into the concrete barrier. That impact sent his car under the semi-trailer. Perry said it appears Taylor was driving too fast for road conditions.

Taylor, a former Brigham City firefighter, had recently moved to Clarkston. He was attending Police Officer Standard and Training at Weber State to become a police officer.
