POLK COUNTY, FL : FHP ID's man killed in I-4 crash in Polk; 2 others injured on Monday, 8th July 2019

A 72-year-old Apopka man was identified as the driver killed in a violent crash on Interstate 4 late Monday afternoon.
According to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol, Joseph C. Schoenbauer Jr. was killed when his 2004 Ford minivan slammed into a state Road Ranger’s vehicle parked along the highway during rush hour near the Hillsborough County line.
Heading westbound at 5:03 p.m. at mile marker 26, FHP reported that Schoenbauer did not move over one lane as required by state law where the Road Ranger, 66-year-old Michael I. Delong of Plant City, had pulled onto the I-4 shoulder to assist a motorist with a flat tire.
The minivan struck Delong’s 2018 Chevrolet pickup with such force that it pushed it forward into the disabled 2016 Lexus sedan driven by Noah A. Feldkamp, 19, of Thonotosassa.
Schoenbauer was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, 66-year-old Winifred B. Schoenbauer, was transported to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center with critical injuries. She remained hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday morning, according to FHP.
Delong also was taken to Lakeland Regional where he was treated for minor injuries.
Feldkamp was not injured in the crash.
