DAVENPORT, FL : 1 person injured after crash on I-4 causes dump truck to overturn, car to burst into flames on Tuesday, December 20th 2016
A fiery crash briefly closed the westbound lanes of Interstate 4 early Tuesday morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol received a call on the accident just west of the U.S. 27 interchange shortly before 6 a.m., said FHP Sgt. Steve Gaskins.
The dump truck was traveling west in the right lane of I-4 when it was struck in the rear by a four-door 2014 Nissan attempting to pass, according to a FHP report.
The impact forced the Nissan onto the right shoulder, where it overturned and burst into flames, the report said. The driver of the Nissan, Manuel A. Navarro Jimenez, 24, of Kissimmee, was taken to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center with serious injuries.
Jimenez was charged with careless driving, Gaskins said.
The dump truck crossed the highway and landed on the left shoulder, where it overturned and spilled its load of sand onto the road, he said. The driver of that vehicle, Jason H. Brown, 41, of Lakeland, had minor injuries.
