Spring Valley, California
A woman witnessed a hit-and-run driver fatally hit her stepfather on a Spring Valley road Tuesday night, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
A damaged car believed to be involved in the crash was found later, and two people were detained.
The victim was crossing Sweetwater Road mid-block about 10 p.m. when a northbound driver struck him near Taylor Street, the CHP said. The driver did not stop.
The victim’s stepdaughter told investigators she had dropped him off and was driving away when she heard screeching tires. The woman pulled over and found her stepfather lying on the road, CHP Officer Brian Pennings said.
The man died before he could be taken to a hospital. His name and age were not released.
CHP officers scoured the area looking for the car involved in the collision, which was described as a silver sedan with damage to the passenger’s side.
An hour later, officers came across a silver Mercedes E320 with damage to the passenger’s side and windshield at an apartment building a block away, on Troy Street near Sweetwater.
A man and a woman were taken into custody. No other details were immediately available.
