Birmingham, AL : Two suspects detained in crash injuring two Birmingham Police officers on July, Saturday 1st 2017

Two suspects are in police custody, after a fatal shooting, chase and crash into a police car.

The Birmingham Police Department reports it started when officers responded to a shots fired call in west Birmingham.

At that time, a wreck was reported in the area, and found a car that struck a house in the 1700 block of Jefferson Avenue SW.

The driver suffered a gunshot wound and died at the scene.

The Birmingham Police Department says it was determined the driver was shot by a stray bullet from the suspects who were shooting at the father's car earlier.

Police officers spotted the car described by the father earlier, and a pursuit began.

The chase continues until the suspects struck a patrol unit assisting in the pursuit at Grant Avenue and 18th Street SW.

It's unclear whether the suspects intentionally struck the patrol unit, or if it was an accidental collision.

The two officers were taken to UAB Hospital, suffering with serious injuries.

At this time, the officers are stable and recovering.

The suspects were placed on a felony time extension for Capital Murder.

"We are extremely thankful that our officers walked away from this horrific accident alive. Unfortunately, an innocent life was loss due to the reckless actions of two not so innocent individuals.", says Lt. Sean Edwards of the Birmingham Police Department.
