Silverdale, WA : Motorcyclist killed after a crash on Tuesday November 10 2015
State troopers are searching for a driver who didn’t stop after a crash in which a motorcyclist was killed last month.
Jared Knight, of Silverdale, died Nov. 1 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after a collision two nights earlier on Highway 3 near Anderson Hill Road. According to the Washington State Patrol, Knight was riding a 2014 Harley-Davidson north at 8:45 p.m. when a car driven by a 21-year-old Darrington man made an unsafe lane change and struck the bike.
Knight, 33, had no brain activity at Harborview but was kept alive until his organs could be donated. A Navy submarine sonar technician, he is survived by his wife, Melissa, and four young children. The native Alabamian had been a sailor for 15 years.
Witnesses told troopers that two cars were possibly racing. The 21-year-old, also a sailor, stayed at the scene and gave a statement. The other driver didn’t stop. The 21-year-old said he didn’t know the other driver. He described the car as a dark Subaru WRX with “Angry Bird” headlights.
Detective Rodney Green of the State Patrol learned from witnesses that the motorcycle was in the fast lane. A slower vehicle was in the right lane. The two cars pulled around the slow vehicle and the 21-year-old’s Dodge Stealth sideswiped the Harley, Green said.
