Dallas, TX : Neighborhood handyman killed in Tollway wreck on Friday, June 20, 2014

The victim of Friday's bizarre accident on the Dallas North Tollway was a senior citizen who was beloved in his Dallas neighborhood.

Joseph Higginbotham, 70, was killed when his pickup truck ran into a crane that became dislodged from a truck.

Higginbotham was everybody's favorite handyman, always willing to lend a helping hand.

His friends and family are understandably devastated by what happened on Friday afternoon.

State troopers were called to the wreck around 3:30 p.m. on the Tollway near teh Frankford Road exit. What happened? A truck with a drilling rig mounted on its bed was traveling south in the center lane when a tire blew.

The driver pulled into the left lane, but the crane's boom shifted and was left hanging over the northbound lanes.

Higginbotham's truck hit the crane and he died at the scene. The accident brought traffic to a standstill for hours. No one else was injured.
