Klamath Falls, OR : Malin man died in a single-vehicle rollover accident outside of the town on Sunday, January 1, 2017
A Malin man has died in a single-vehicle rollover accident that took place early New Year’s day outside of the town.
On Sunday at about 9 a.m., Oregon State Police troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Highway 50 near milepost 25 (just southeast of Malin).
Preliminary investigation revealed a 2006 Jeep Wrangler was southbound on Morelock Road when it failed to stop at a stop sign with the intersection of Highway 50 (Klamath Falls — Malin Highway). The Jeep crossed Highway 50 and rolled into an empty irrigation ditch, coming to rest on its roof.
The driver, Alejandro Zamora Lagunas, 31, of Malin, was pronounced deceased at the scene. It is believed the crash occurred between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m. based on a text message he sent and time of discovery. Contributing factors leading to the fatality are believed to be failure to use safety belt and consumption of alcohol, OSP said in a press release.
OSP was assisted by the Malin Fire Department.
