Chesterfield Township ,MI : Two motorcyclists critically injured in hit-and-run accident on Saturday night ,August 22nd 2015

Two motorcyclists were critically injured Saturday night when the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a pickup truck in the intersection of 26 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue.

The 44-year-old Warren man driving the motorcycle and the 41-year-old Fraser woman riding as a passenger are both at McLaren Macomb Hospital in critical condition.

Police say the 34-year-old Rochester Hills man driving the 2000 Ford Ranger pickup truck fled the accident scene while dragging the motorcycle underneath the front of the truck. The motorcycle was dragged for about 600 yards down 26 Mile Road before the man tried to dislodge it and, when he was unable to, fled on foot. Officers searched the area for the man but couldn't find him.

The driver of the truck was found several hours later at a home in Madison Heights. He was taken into custody without incident. He told police that he had been drinking before the accident and "panicked" after he hit the motorcycle.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
