Providence, N.Y : Man charged after fatal ATV accident in Saratoga County on Sunday, June 21, 2015

Saratoga County Sheriff’s officials have arrested a Caroga Lake man on Sunday after a fatal All Terrain Vehicle crash overnight left a Fort Johnson woman dead.

ATV operator Edward J. Wager, 33, faces several charges after the accident on Hans Creek Road just after midnight. His passenger, Roxanne Opalka, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene. Wager was transported to Saratoga Hospital for treatment.

Investigators say Wager was operating the ATV at a high rate of speed westbound on Hans Creek Road. He lost control and both were ejected. Neither was wearing a helmet.

The cause of the crash was determined to be unsafe speed with alcohol involvement.

Wager will face the following charges in the Providence Town Court: felony driving while intoxicated, speed not reasonable and prudent, reckless driving ATV, unlawful operation of ATV on highway, no helmet ATV, uninsured ATV, failed to produce proof of insurance ATV, and unregistered ATV.

The investigation continues and more charges may be pending.
