Ashtabula County, OH : Pizza delivery man killed in a car crash in Geneva Township on Thursday, May 5, 2016
A Domino’s pizza delivery man was killed in a car crash Thursday at 6:08 p.m. while on a delivery to a North Myers Road home, said Ashtabula County Coroner’s Investigator Keith Stewart.
Orville P. Rice, 62, of Geneva, was pronounced dead at the scene following a two-car crash on North Myers Road near the New London Road intersection, Stewart said.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, said OHP Sgt. Aaron Belcher.
Belcher said Rice was making a left hand turn into a driveway on the west side of the street when another driver passed a car and smashed into the driver’s side of Rice’s vehicle. Stewart said the impact was enough to kill Rice.
All three vehicles were driving north at the time of the crash, Belcher said.
Belcher said Amber L. Boucher, 25, of Ashtabula, was driving northbound and struck the vehicle driven by Rice, according to a witness in the middle car. The speed of Boucher’s vehicle is unknown at this time.
“We had a reconstruction unit out (to determine speed),” Belcher said.
Boucher and a child were transported to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of minor injuries, he said.
“(Rice) was sent to Cleveland for an autopsy. We may find a preliminary cause (of death) late (Friday) or Monday,” Stewart said.
The manager of the Geneva Domino’s Pizza came to the crash site when informed of the crash, he said.
Belcher said no charges have been filed and the investigation is likely to take several weeks.
Northwest
Ambulance and Geneva Fire Department
also responded to the scene.
