AMPBELL COUNTY, VA : 5-year-old girl and woman dead after crash in Campbell County on Monday, 22nd July 2024

Two people are dead after a crash Monday, July 22 at 8:27 a.m.

The driver of a Kia Forte was traveling southbound on the 1900 block of Brookneal Highway when she hydroplaned in heavy rain and crossed into the northbound lane, striking a tractor trailer head-on, according to Virginia State Police.

The driver of the Kia, Madilyn Ballard, 26 of Altavista, died at the scene, according to police. Police say she was wearing a seat belt.

A five-year-old girl in the Kia also died at the scene, according to police. Police say she was wearing a seat belt and in a car seat.
