Delaware, OH : Pedestrian killed in I-71 crash in Genoa Township on Saturday, September 10, 2016

The Delaware Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating a vehicle/pedestrian fatal crash. The crash occurred at approximately 9:43 p.m. on Saturday, on Interstate 71, near mile post 125, in Genoa Township.

Joshua A. Lawhorn, 36, of Galion, was driving a 2016 GMC Canyon, northbound on Interstate 71, in the center lane. Cody Ann Chrisman, 35, of Ashland, Ohio, was stopped in a 2011 Ford Flex, northbound on Interstate 71, on the right side berm. Chrisman attempted to cross the northbound lanes of Interstate 71, on foot, and was struck by Lawhorn’s vehicle.

Chrisman sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Delaware County Coroner’s Office. Lawhorn and the passenger, Chelsea R. Porter, 23, of Mansfield, were both wearing their safety belts at the time of the crash. Porter sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash and Lawhorn was not injured.

Alcohol/drug use is suspected and the crash remains under investigation, according to a news release.
