Navarre, FL : Adult, child injured after a crashing into a tree on State Road 87 and Buckeye Drive Monday night, August 8, 2016

An adult and a juvenile were injured after crashing into a tree Monday night, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of State Road 87 and Buckeye Drive in Navarre, the release said. Christopher M. Weatherington, 37, was driving northbound on SR87 when he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a tree.

Weatherington was flown by helicopter to Sacred Heart Hospital with serious injuries, according to the release. An 11-year-old passenger in the car was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital with minor injuries.

Weatherington was not wearing a seat belt, but the juvenile was wearing the safety device. Weatherington has been charged with careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.
