Lorian, OH : Teen passes away after overnight crash in Lorain
One teen was killed and another critically injured after their vehicle went off the road, hit a home and ended up catching fire overnight in Lorain.
Police say it happened at just before 1 a.m.
A silver 1999 Honda was traveling north on Kansas Avenue toward railroad tracks. The Honda crossed the tracks at a high rate of speed, reports state, lost control and went off the road, hitting a utility pole.
The Honda then went back onto the road, then off again — driving through several yards and colliding with an SUV. It continued on, colliding with a home at 426 Kansas Avenue. The car came to a rest after hitting a tree.
The vehicle then caught fire, police say. Officers were able to get the two teens out with help from several citizens.
The home hit by the vehicle sustained “substantial structural damage,” according to police.
The driver of the Honda was identified as Zachary Goodin, 17, of Lorain. Goodin sustained incapacitating injuries, said police, and was listed in critical condition at the hospital.
The front seat passenger was Cameron Friend, 17, of Lorain. Friend sustained severe injuries, said police, and passed away at the hospital.
Police say the accident is under investigation but that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call police at 440-204-2115.
