WINNSBORO, SC : High-speed chase involving trooper ends in fiery crash on Saturday, November 12th 2016

Three people were injured when a high-speed chase in Winnsboro ended in a fiery collision Saturday.

Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say one of their officers tried to pull over a car for a speeding violation on Saturday at about 3:41 p.m. The driver refused to stop and a pursuit began on Highway 321 near the Fairfield County line.

A witness to the chase said she saw the car being pursued crash into another vehicle, which caused both cars to catch fire. She said she saw two men and a woman being taken from the scene by officers.

Fairfield County Sheriff Will Montgomery said the woman was seriously injured. The two men suffered injuries there were not as severe and Montgomery said they will be okay. One man was driving the vehicle that was being pursued and another man was driving the vehicle that was struck.

Montgomery said one of his deputies pulled the driver of the second vehicle from the burning wreckage.

The sheriff's office has turned over the investigation to the Lexington County Sheriff's Office. No other details will be released until the LCSO completes its investigation.
