Greenland, NH : Driver dies in fiery crash on Ocean Road on Friday night, April 22, 2016
The driver of a vehicle died in a fiery crash Friday night on Ocean Road.
Greenland police responded to the area of 48 Ocean Road for a vehicle on fire around 11:48 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle fully engulfed in the middle of the road. This section of Ocean Road is between Route 33 and Portsmouth Avenue.
It was quickly determined the vehicle had collided with a tree on the north side of the road before catching fire. Once the fire was extinguished, Greenland fire personnel located an unidentified body in the front seat.
New Hampshire State Police Troop A and the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit were requested to assist with the investigation.
Preliminary investigation revealed a black 2010 Dodge Avenger being driven by the unidentified driver was traveling west on Ocean Road. According to police, for reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle left the road and struck a large tree on the north side of the road. The unidentified driver was pronounced dead at the scene. State police declined to release any further information about the deceased as of Saturday afternoon.
Ocean Road was closed in the area of the crash for approximately four hours as troopers conducted their investigation and the vehicle was removed from the scene.
