Arundel, ME : Icy Roads Cause Fatal York County Crash on Route 1 in Maine Sunday morning, November 30, 2014
Police say icy roads led to a deadly accident on Route 1 in Maine Sunday morning.
The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. near the Arundel-Biddeford town line.
The driver, 69-year-old Richard Johnson of Saco hit a patch of ice on an overpass, crossed the center line and flipped over after hitting a telephone pole, according to investigators. Johnson was the only person in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators do not believe speed was a factor in the crash.
Police have closed the roadway to traffic and are asking drivers to find another way around. The road is expected to be closed for several hours.
