BROCKTON, MA : Driver in crash that killed 4 high school friends convicted on Wednesday, 12th February, 2020

The driver of a car that crashed into a tree in Massachusetts nearly two years ago, killing four of his high school classmates, has been convicted by a jury of four counts of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation.

Naiquan Hamilton, 19, of Stoughton, was convicted Wednesday in Brockton Superior Court after a six-day trial and about four hours of jury deliberations, the office of Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz said.

Hamilton, who was 17 at the time of the May 2018 crash in East Bridgewater, was tried as a youthful offender. He was acquitted of several other charges including motor vehicle homicide while under the influence of drugs.

Christopher Desir, Eryck Sarblah, and David Bell, all 17, as well as Nicholas Joyce, 16, died in the crash. All five attended Stoughton High School.

They were heading to a Brockton mall, prosecutors said.

Hamilton was driving 80 to 100 miles per hour and trying to pass another car at the time, prosecutors said.
