Hampden, ME : Bangor woman injured in a Three-car crash on Route 202 and 9 in Hampden on Tuesday, February 3, 2015

Icy roads were to blame for a three-car accident that sent a Bangor woman to the hospital with minor injuries Tuesday, according to police.

The crash snarled traffic on routes 202 and 9, known locally as Western Avenue, for much of the morning commute, Hampden police Officer Ben Eyles said.

The crash was reported shortly before 9 a.m. near the intersection with Evergreen Drive, Eyles said.

Joseph Imbriaco, 32, of Hampden was attempting to stop at the intersection of Evergreen Drive and Western Avenue when he slid through the stop sign and struck a westbound car driven by Juliette Coltart, 26, of Bangor, the officer said.

The impact sent Coltart’s vehicle into the eastbound lanes and it was struck head-on by a car driven by Todd Guerrette, 50, of Newburgh, Eyles said.

Coltart went to Eastern Maine Medical Center. Guerrette and Imbriaco were not injured, according to Eyles. Guerrette and Coltart’s vehicles were totaled and Imbriaco’s was significantly damaged.

Western Avenue was down to one lane for about 15 to 20 minutes, Eyles said. The officer is advising motorists to take it slow on the icy roads as crews work around the clock to clear them after multiple snowstorms.
