Whitley County, IN : One person died and four others injured after a head-on crash on U.S. 33 northwest of Churubusco on Sunday evening, Nov 15, 2015

A head-on crash on U.S. 33 northwest of Churubusco sent five people to the hospital Sunday evening. One person has since died.

Emergency crews were called shortly before 8 p.m. to U.S. 33 near County Line Road, near the Noble and Whitley County line.

Officials said a car and pickup truck collided head-on in a curve in the road. Investigators do not know why the vehicles collided.

A woman riding in the pickup truck was taken to a hospital after being freed from the truck by firefighters. She was pronounced dead there. The driver of the truck suffered a wrist fracture.

Two people in the car were ejected. A female passenger was air lifted to a Fort Wayne hospital with a pelvic fracture. The driver of the car also suffered a pelvic fracture and was taken by ambulance to a hospital. Fire officials said an infant in the backseat suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for further evaluation.

U.S. 33 was closed for approximately two hours.

The crash is under investigation.
