Motorcyclist killed in Williamson County crash
A motorcyclist died on Saturday after he was involved in a multiple-vehicle crash in Williamson County a day earlier, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash happened about 6:40 a.m. Friday on U.S. 183 about nine miles southwest of Florence. Investigators said that a Sterling truck was pulling out from a private driveway onto the highway when it was struck by a Toyota sports utility vehicle traveling south on the highway. The Toyota spun across all northbound lanes and landed in a ditch. A motorcycle also hit the Sterling truck.
The motorcyclist was 35-year-old James Gabriel Kempfield of Copperas Cove and he was taken to Cedar Park Regional Medical Center where he died Saturday morning.
Officials said that the driver of the Toyota was distracted by a cell phone.
Investigators did not say whether he was wearing a helmet.
