Crown Point, IN : Chicago woman killed in crash in Crown Point Friday on northbound Interstate 65 on August 15, 2014

A two-vehicle crash Friday on northbound Interstate 65 claimed the life of a Chicago woman and sent three others to the hospital. According to a press release from the Indiana State Police, Alesia M. Crawford, 30, of Chicago, was stopped about 10:17 p.m. on the inside shoulder with the emergency flashers activated because of a flat tire on her 2005 Hyundai. She was attempting to call for assistance when a 1994 Volvo semi truck driven by David Lee Westra, 26, of Pell Lake, Wisconsin, was unable to stop and ran over the top of the Hyundai about a mile north of the Crown Point exit. Jacqueline Brown, 53, of Chicago, who was riding in the front seat, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger sitting behind the driver, Ana A. C. Williams, 30, of Gary, was taken to Southlake Methodist Hospital in Merrillville with a possible broken femur and a concussion. Crawford was taken to St Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point with possible broken ribs. The Hyundai was totaled and the semi had about $10,000 damage, police said. Westra was taken to St. Anthony’s Hospital with complaints of pain and for a toxicology test. No citations were given at the time and the crash still is under investigation, police said.
