Logan, Utah : Two teenagers injured in Wellsville semi crash on Wednesday September 14 2016
Two teenagers were flown to Primary Children’s Hospital on Wednesday morning after the Ford pickup they were in was struck by a semi truck.
The driver of the semi told The Herald Journal he was traveling northbound on U.S. 89/91, approaching the traffic light in Wellsville, when the driver of the Ford turned east onto State Road 101. There was simply no evasive action he could take before broadsiding the truck, he said.
Two teens from Wellsville, both wearing their seatbelts, were extricated from the pickup and transported by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital and then flown to Salt Lake City with serious injuries.
According to a GoFundMe page created for the Wellsville family, the teens are 17-year-old Tyler Willets and his 14-year-old sister Jenna.
The driver of the semi, 53-year-old Eddie Price of Smithfield, was not physically injured in the crash, but was visibly shaken by what he called a life-altering event.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jason Kendrick said the Ford turned in front of the semi on a green light. The semi struck the smaller truck and continued off the roadway to the right, pushing it up an embankment into the edge of a cornfield on the north east corner of the intersection.
A third vehicle, a white Chevrolet Silverado that had been waiting to make a right turn onto the highway, was clipped as the trucks passed him. The driver of that truck was not injured.
