Man Killed Walking Across I-80 Near Fernley

Nevada Highway Patrol troopers have identified the man killed Thursday night while walking on Interstate 80 west of Fernley.Troopers say 26-year-old Jason D. Gonzalez of Wadsworth was trying to cross the eastbound lanes of the highway in front of a semi-truck when he was hit. Specifically, troopers say Gonzalez was near the right shoulder of the freeway and tried to cross toward the center median of highway around 8:15pm.The driver of the 2007 Freightliner semi-truck, 57-year-old Surjit S. Dhaliwal of Elk Grove, California stopped to help Gonzalez, but Gonzalez died at the scene.One east lane of the highway was closed for several hours as troopers investigated the accident scene.
