RAMSEUR, NC : Two injured in wreck near ERHS on Friday, October 6, 2017
Two people were transported to the hospital following an early morning collision near Eastern Randolph High School Friday, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
A 2008 GMC SUV driven by 16-year-old Christian Gutierrez-Ortega of Ramseur collided with a 2003 Acura passenger car driven by Ethel Doring, 74, of Asheboro. The accident occurred at 7:20 a.m. Friday at the intersection of U.S. 64 East and Eastern Randolph Road, Trooper J.D. Allred reported.
Doring’s car, which was traveling west on U.S. 64, was struck when Gutierrez-Ortega failed to yield as he turned onto Eastern Randolph Road, the trooper said.
Doring and a 7-year-old child were transported to Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Gutierrez-Ortega was taken to an area hospital and released. A female passenger in Doring’s car was not injured.
Allred said everyone was wearing seat belts and speed was not a factor in the accident, adding charges against Gutierrez-Ortega are pending upon completion of the investigation.
