Warwick, MA : 28-year-old man killed in an all-terrain vehicle accident in western Massachusetts on Sunday, April 19, 2015

The 28-year-old man killed Sunday in an ATV accident was not wearing a helmet, according to a spokeswoman for the Massachusetts Environmental Police.

The man was identified as Ryan E. Gauthier of Gill.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which was reported at about 4:15 p.m. said Katie Gronendyke, press secretary for the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs.

The Environmental Police does not release the names of accident victims, she said.

Gauthier was identified as the victim in the crash in his obituary distributed to area press by the Kostanski Funeral Home of Montague.

The obituary lists him as a self-employed landscaper. He is survived by his parents, Michael and Karen Gauthier, a girlfriend Emmalie McKnight and two children, all of Gill.

Gronendyke said the accident remains under investigation by the environmental police.

Alcohol was not considered a factor in the crash, Gronendyke said.

The Environmental Police were assisted on scene by the Warwick Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney's Office.

According to Warwick police, Gauthier was riding on East Wilson Road when he ran into a telephone pole.
