Salem man, Florida woman identified in Mannington motorcycle vs. car crash

The drivers involved in a dramatic-looking crash between a car and motorcycle over the weekend were identified by state police on Monday.

Police said a motorcycle driven by Howard Brown, 53, of Salem, collided with a car driven by Loretta Houghton, 58, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., at about 6:57 p.m. on Saturday.

The crash, which police described as a “partial head-on collision,” occurred on Route 45, south of the intersection with Gordon Road.

After the crash, the motorcycle lay in the center of the road, a large number of parts were scattered on both lanes of the highway.

The car came to rest off the southbound shoulder of the roadway with what appeared to be extensive damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle.

State police said there were no serious injuries in the crash. Brown was taken to The Memorial Hospital of Salem County and then, as a precaution, flown to Cooper Medical Center in Camden, police said.

No summonses have been issued, but police said the incident remains under investigation.
