GHENT, NY : A Hudson man was airlifted to Albany Medical Center after his car was struck by a motorist on May, Wednesday, 24th 2017
A Hudson man was airlifted to Albany Medical Center after his car was struck by a motorist who swerved while trying to avoid an animal in the road Wednesday morning on Route 66, Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett said.
The crash happened just before 8:50 a.m. south of Tipple Road in the town of Ghent when a Saab sedan driven by Rosa Acheson, 25, of Chatham was south on Route 66, then swerved, crossing the centerline into the northbound lane and striking a Toyota Celica convertible, driven by Yosef Lewis, 40, of Hudson, head on.
Lewis was taken to the Columbia County Airport and airlifted to Albany Medical Center.
Acheson was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital for chest pain. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
The accident is still under investigation by Sheriff's Office Deputies, Investigators, and the Sheriff's Accident/Investigation Unit. State Route 66, between Whittier Way and Tipple Road, was closed until about 11:30 a.m.
Greenport Rescue Squad, West Ghent Fire Company, and Ghent Fire Company assisted at the scene.
Investigating for the Sheriff's Office are Sheriff David Bartlett, Undersheriff John Davi, Captain John DeRocha, Senior Investigator Kevin Skype, Investigator Anthony Brahm, Investigator Reagan Anderson, Sergeant Jeff Hofstetter, Deputy Peter Merante, and Deputy Jordan Brahm.
