Newmarket, N.H : Teen in critical after car crash on Route 108, near the Durham town line on Saturday afternoon, October 1, 2016
A single car crash on Saturday afternoon sent one Newmarket teen to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Police Chief Kyle True said the accident is still under investigation, but said they do not believe that drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident.
The occupant of the car has been identified as Cameron Russell, 18, of Newmarket. Emergency responders received several 911 calls for the crash which happened at about 2:25 p.m.
According to a press release, the accident happened on Route 108, near the Durham town line. Entrapment was involved and members of the Newmarket Fire Rescue and the Durham Fire Department freed the teen using the Jaws of Life. He was severely injured and was taken initially to Exeter Hospital but was later transported to Massachusetts General Hospital. A medical helicopter had been requested for the transport but according to the press release they were unable to assist due to adverse weather conditions.
Russell had been traveling southbound on Route 108 prior to the crash. At some point, Russell lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway and struck a tree. Russell was driving 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup truck.
Newmarket Fire Fighters were assisted at the scene by members of the Durham Fire Department and the Exeter Advanced Life Support. The cause of the accident remains under investigation at this time by the Newmarket Police Department.
