CLEARWATER, FL : A motorcyclist was fatally injured in a crash on Thursday, August 31, 2017
A motorcyclist was fatally injured in a crash early Thursday morning involving a sport utility vehicle, according to Clearwater police.
Police said 23-year-old Joshua Douglass, of Palm Harbor, was speeding eastbound on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard shortly after midnight when he struck an SUV that was turning west from S Hercules Avenue.
The impact caused his motorcycle to break apart and sent pieces of it flying into the parking lot of a convenience store a block east and across the street.
Douglass, of Palm Harbor, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Police said he was later pronounced dead.
All lanes at that intersection — next to Clearwater High School — were closed for several hours Thursday morning and reopened just after 8:30 a.m., police said.
No other information about the incident was released.
