PICKENS COUNTY, SC : Dirt bike driver dies at hospital hours after crash on Upstate highway on Tuesday, 30th March 2021

A driver of a dirt bike hit by a Jeep Tuesday night has died, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Trooper Joe Hovis said the crash was reported about 11:35 p.m. on SC Highway 183, about two miles south of Pickens.

Hovis said a 17-year-old juvenile driving a 1997 Jeep hit a Honda dirt bike in the rear as both vehicles were headed north.

The driver of the dirt bike was not wearing a helmet, was ejected, and taken to Prisma Health Greenville, Hovis said. He said the Honda driver died Wednesday morning.

The name of the dirt bike driver was not immediately released.

The driver of the Jeep was not injured.
