Toledo, OH : 2 motorcyclists die in Sylvania Township crashes on Sunday, September 17th 2017
The Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating two fatal motorcycle crashes Sunday in Sylvania Township.
About 2:30 a.m., David Binger of Delta, Ohio, was traveling west on Central Avenue and lost control of his motorcycle as he approached Millicent Road. He hit a curb and was thrown from the bike. He was not wearing a helmet and was taken to ProMedica Toledo Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
About 8:26 p.m., motorcyclist Stephen Powhida, 50, died while in a two-vehicle crash while traveling eastbound on Central near Herr Road. A pickup truck driven by Klaus Kennedy, 72, failed to yield and made a left-hand turn in front of the motorcycle. Mr. Powhida’s motorcycle struck the truck on the passenger side, and Mr. Powhida — who was not wearing a helmet — sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mr. Kennedy was transported to ProMedica Toledo Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
No charges have been filed as the crash remains under investigation.
