Shasta County sheriff’s deputies are searching for a driver who crashed a vehicle in the Verde Vale area north of Anderson on Tuesday, fleeing and leaving behind about 10 pounds of marijuana.
Deputies tried to stop a blue Camaro that was traveling north on Highway 273. Instead of pulling over, the driver sped away, turning left onto Hill Street, officials said.
The suspect’s vehicle nearly collided with an oncoming car and eventually crashed into the Anderson-Cottonwood Irrigation District canal at the end of Jacqueline Street, officials said.
The driver got out of the car and ran away. Deputies searched the area with the help of an airplane and helicopter, but the driver could not be found. During a search of the vehicle deputies found about 10 pounds of marijuana.
