Belleville, IL : Three people injured in a two-vehicle crash in Granite City early Thursday morning, February 23, 2017
Granite City police said they suspect alcohol was a factor in a head-on crash early Thursday morning.
According to a Granite City Police Department news release, the two-vehicle crash took place at about 1:15 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Illinois 3 at West Chain of Rocks Road. Police said one of the drivers involved in the crash was going the wrong way.
Three people were taken to St. Louis-area hospitals for treatment. One person was flown to Barnes-Jewish Hospital, while the other two were taken to Saint Louis University Hospital. All three were still being treated late Thursday morning. Police did not indicate the severity of the injuries.
The crash shut down the southbound lanes of Illinois 3 for more than six hours so that accident-reconstruction experts with the Illinois State Police could work at the scene. The road reopened about 7:30 a.m., police said.
The Granite City Fire Department assisted.
